With all the extreme cold weather lately, with temperatures feeling like -36 C, brrr, we have been spending a lot of time at home. It’s sometimes challenging for my eldest to find games she can play with my toddler because of their big age gap. But lately they have been having fun making a library out of a cardboard box we picked up from the grocery store. They even made their own library cards, and at one point had a book drop off box in front. At night they attach a piece of paper to the back of the library on the balcony section to create a shadow puppet theatre.

They have been keeping busy other ways too. Painting is always a big favourite around here. To change it up a bit I got out some stencils for them to paint different designs and scenes. They also love board games. Even though my toddler doesn’t know how to play yet, they still have fun playing with them and making up their own rules. We are really looking forward to Spring when we can visit family and spend more time with them, but in the meantime we have been writing them letters. Other things on our cabin fever list of things we’ve been doing– reading books, baking cookies, painting our nails, treasure hunting, crafting, and sensory play with water or snow in a small tub. Whenever we get stuck on new ideas we check my pinterest folder of indoor play.
