Spring Photo Walk

(Photos by my daughter, MissA)

My daughters and I are really loving the outdoor challenge and are trying our best to get out for at least 30 minutes everyday. Some days we will stay out for 30 minutes, sometimes 4 hours, and sometimes we won’t go out at all, like when my littlest one was sick with a fever. We plan, but Allah is the best of planners. What I can say that has really been helping us get out though, is first making the intention and then coming up with different and exciting ideas for our outdoor adventures. One such idea was our Spring Photo Walk that we did this weekend. To do the spring photo walk I wanted to go somewhere my daughter could really appreciate the signs of spring, and not just go around the neighbourhood. So we headed to a local conservation area and my daughter took photos of different signs of spring. I really wanted my daughter to appreciate how magnificent it is to see the way our Creator brings things to life, and how all types of species both plant and animal, all creations of Allah, come out with the new season.

Indeed, in the creation of the
heavens and earth, and the alternation of the night and the day, and the
[great] ships which sail through the sea with that which benefits
people, and what Allah has sent down from the heavens of rain, giving
life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness
and dispersing therein
every [kind of] moving creature, and [His] directing of the winds and
the clouds controlled between the heaven and the earth are signs for a
people who use reason
. {Quran 2:164}

My daughter was able to capture so many signs of spring including: growing green grass, leaves, buds and blossoms on the trees, flowing unfrozen water, dandelions and other flowers, singing birds and croaking frogs, snails and a slew of other bugs and insects, and mud with animal tracks! This was a nice experience because it really made my daughter stop and look closely, and not just run along the park trails. Alhumdulillah for all the beautiful signs of spring.
